The easy way Liam Rosenior can halt Chelsea crisis
Chelsea are the Premier League’s crisis club right now, with the Blues in the midst of unwanted turmoil ahead of a crucial few weeks in the English top flight.
Vice-captain Enzo Fernandez has been suspended by the club for the next two matches after hinting he would like to join Real Madrid this summer, while Marc Cucurella has also admitted that an exit could be on the cards if Barcelona approach him.
In addition, head coach Liam Rosenior remains under massive pressure following four consecutive defeats across all competitions, and a large section of the club’s supporters are eager for him to be sacked after a huge dip in form over the past few weeks.
One way Rosenior could halt the current fan sentiment, and the crisis surrounding the club, is by trusting in the Chelsea youth set-up against Port Vale in the FA Cup.
Of course, this won’t magically fix things and the attitude around Rosenior’s position as head coach only stands to worsen if they suffer defeat to Manchester City next weekend, especially given the Blues have voluntarily ruled one of their best players out of contention.
However, supporters need a glimmer of hope and there’s very little Rosenior can do to achieve this in a cup match against a team rock bottom of League One. Even a resounding 5-0 win likely wouldn’t lift the mood as such a result is expected from a team who boast the financial muscle of his side.
Dipping into the academy could be an easy win, though.
How Liam Rosenior can halt Chelsea crisis
Every fanbase loves it when an academy product breaks into the first-team and Rosenior could fall back on this tried and tested method in an attempt to create a feel-good atmosphere at Stamford Bridge once again.
Furthermore, it’s not as if he’s limited for choice. There’s Shumaira Mheuka, who has bagged 36 goals for club and country this season, Jesse Derry, who has already made his senior debut following his arrival from Crystal Palace last summer, and Reggie Walsh, a favourite of former boss Enzo Maresca.
The one player Rosenior should turn to above all, however, is 17-year-old wing wizard Ryan Kavuma-McQueen.
The teenager has already been named on the substitutes bench for the senior team on two occasions this season and he’s ready to be rewarded with a first-team debut. Kavuma-McQueen is now a regular in Chelsea’s U21 side and he heads into the Port Vale clash in serious form.
The teenager has scored 12 goals and provided two assists in 15 games for club and country this calendar year, including netting on three occasions in two matches for England U17s during the March international break.
Kavuma-McQueen is a left-footed winger capable of playing on either flank and his direct style of wing play is proving too difficult to contain at academy level, while he possesses an immensely powerful shot.
Chelsea are in a poor place right now and Rosenior, fairly or unfairly, is bearing the brunt of criticism. One easy way to appease the fans, and ease the pressure on his shoulders, would be to hand Kavuma-McQueen his senior debut, and preferably name him in the starting XI.
