Michael Carrick is considered the ‘right man’ to be named Manchester United’s new permanent manager according to his players, who have given the interim coach their backing to lead them into the future.

Carrick has overseen a dramatic turnaround since replacing Ruben Amorim in January, with United winning seven of their ten games under the 44-year-old and in pole position to qualify for the Champions League next season.

Although United won’t make a formal decision over their new manager until the end of the season, Carrick is considered the favourite to be handed the reigns full-time and that decision would be backed by Amad Diallo, who claimed the entire squad are behind their coach.

“Obviously, it’s not for us as players to decide his future but he’s been great,” Amad said. “He’s done so much for the team, he has a lot of experience, he knows the club, he has been in the house.

“We think he’s the right man and we’re really happy for what he’s doing right now. We have had a good experience with him, playing under him, it’s not for us to decide but we are going to try and take as much as we can from him.

“He’s been here not too long but he's done very well. His relationship with every player is very good and sometimes you need this kind of manager to bring the club to where they belong. From a personal view, he’s the right man but it’s not the players who decide.”

I think the club will decide at the end of the season but my honest opinion is we are really happy to have Michael Carrick as manager that’s it.

Carrick set to be named next Man Utd manager after squad backing

Barring a dramatic change, Carrick is expected to be given the United job permanently after seeing the likes of Thomas Tuchel, Carlo Ancelotti and, more recently, Roberto De Zerbi, be ruled out the running for the role.

United believe Carrick’s performance in his temporary stint has eliminated rivals in the running and that there aren’t any realistic options they consider superior to their former midfielder.

Amad has featured in all ten of Carrick’s matches so far, starting eight, and the 23-year-old’s sentiments were echoed by teammate Bryan Mbeumo.

Mbeumo said: “He (Carrick) knows the way of the club. He knows how to talk to us as well. And I think it’s been easier because he knew the house, so it has been great to work with him.”
