This summer will present the end of an era at Liverpool as it has now been confirmed that legendary forward Mohamed Salah will leave the club at the conclusion of the season.

An iconic figure at Anfield, the Egyptian is the club's third-highest goalscorer of all time on 255 goals behind only Ian Rush and Roger Hunt.

After failing to make the grade at Chelsea in the Premier League previously, Salah moved to Italy where he shone with Fiorentina and Roma before making his way back to England after he was purchased by Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp in 2017.

He has gone on to become one of the Premier League's greatest ever players and helped the club to their elusive first-ever Premier League title as well as a Champions League victory in 2019, plus another league win in 2025.

The 33-year-old's ability to impact matches has undoubtedly regressed in 2025/26, however, and so he'll move on to pastures new, with the most likely destinations being either Major League Soccer of the Saudi Pro League.

For good and bad, let's look at some of Salah's significant moments as a Red.

Signing for Liverpool and scoring on his debut

Due to his perceived failure at Chelsea years prior, some eyebrows were raised when Liverpool paid Roma £36.9 million to sign Salah in 2017.

Klopp said at the time: "He has the perfect mix of experience and potential - this is a really exciting signing for us. I have followed him since he emerged at Basel and he has matured into a really good player.

"His pace is incredible, he gives us more attacking threat and we are already strong in this area. I like that we will make it even more competitive."

On his Premier League debut, he scored in a 3-3 draw away at Watford.

Man Utd hat-trick

In October of 2021, Liverpool proved that the pendulum of power between England's two most successful teams, themselves and Manchester United, was now firmly in their direction as the Reds destroyed the Red Devils 5-0 at Old Trafford, with Salah scoring a hat-trick.

For his first, he darted to the front post to send an emphatic finish into the roof of the net. For his second, he almost nonchalantly fired a low finish into the bottom corner from the edge of the area and for his hat-trick goal he latched on to a glorious pass from Jordan Henderson to run through and stab a finish over the oncoming David de Gea.

The first goal was the 10th match he had found the back of the net in a row, which summed up his sublime form at the time.

Chelsea screamer as he establishes 'signature' goal

By the time Liverpool hosted Chelsea at Anfield in May of 2019, Salah had already started to establish a 'signature' goal - cutting inside from the right wing and firing a left-footed strike into the far corner.

But, this one is arguably the best of that roster of signature goals as he fires a thunderbolt of a strike into the top corner from a ridiculous angle to the right of the penalty area.

There are only two players in Premier League history that have arguably been elite enough to have their own style of goal established to become a 'thing' - Thierry Henry and Mohamed Salah.

2018 Champions League final: The infamous Ramos incident

The Champions League final of 2018 will be remembered with infamy at Liverpool. It was the game in which Lorus Karius’ career was destroyed by two incredible errors, yet the 3-1 defeat was set in motion as early as the fourth minute of the match, when Sergio Ramos hauled down Salah. The Egyptian was left with an injured shoulder that ruled out of the remainder of the game and saw his impact at the subsequent 2018 World Cup severely curtailed.

Egyptian lawyer Bassem Wahba rapidly launched a €1bn lawsuit against Ramos, the European Judo Union criticised the Spaniard and a petition to have the centre-back punished attracted more than 500,000 signatures.

None of this, of course, could erase the memory of the worst night of Salah’s career, while he was forced into a picture with social media influencer chef 'Salt Bae' afterwards.

The quickest Champions League hat-trick in history

The Egyptian holds the record for the quickest Champions League hat-trick in history, with all three goals against Rangers in 2022 coming within a period of six minutes and 12 seconds.

Liverpool won that game against the Scottish giants 7-1 - a great day at the office, but the highlight was obviously Salah's hat-trick.

He didn't even start the game, either, as a rout of goals came in the last 20 minutes. The hat-trick came via three very different but equally effective finishes - a stab across goal into the bottom corner, a placed strike into the near corner to hoodwink the Rangers keeper and then his signature curled effort from the right into the bottom left corner.

Scoring four vs Watford

Nobody could have predicted the goalscoring machine that Salah would become in a Liverpool shirt. In his debut campaign, he set the record for the most Premier League goals scored in a 38-game season, netting on no less than 32 occasions.

His goalscoring prowess was summed up in May of his first campaign in 2018 when he became one of only 32 players to ever score four goals or more in a Premier League game.

His first was Lionel Messi-esque as he slalomed around in the box, sending Watford players onto their backsides, before firing a strike home. The second and third were from short range, while for the second, he remarkably managed to squeeze a finish tight into the bottom corner despite being surrounded by opposition players.

The Puskas Goal

In his first season with Liverpool, Salah not only set the record for the most goals scored in a single Premier League season - one of them was Puskas Award worthy.

The award for the best goal scored the previous season is given each year at the Ballon d'Or ceremony and Salah won his for an outrageous individual effort versus Everton in 2017.

Not only is it a fabulous goal but it is one that sums Salah up - he uses his incredible strength to send the Everton defender embarrassingly to the floor before picking out a strike into the top left corner.

Goal vs Palace on final day of last season - most goal contributions in a 38-game season

Salah may not be the player he once was, but his decline has been fairly rapid this season as last campaign he was still in outrageous form as Liverpool won the Premier League under Arne Slot.

On the final day of the season he scored in a draw against Crystal Palace and with that goal he broke the record for most goal contributions in a single 38-game Premier League season with 47 (29 goals + 18 assists)

Alan Shearer and Andy Cole also earned 47 goal contributions but they played 42 and 40 games respectively before the number of fixtures was reduced.

First PL goal at Anfield vs Arsenal in 2017

Liverpool made a statement in their first home league game in 2017 as they beat Arsenal 4-0 at Anfield.

The game was noted for Salah scoring his first home Premier League goal - one of the 152 overall he would score at Anfield in the top-flight.

Ten minutes after the break, he took advantage of a mistake by Hector Bellerin in the middle of the pitch to burst through on goal and coolly finish into the corner. From then on, he was an Anfield legend.

Salah speaks out after Leeds: We throw Mo under the bus because he’s the problem

Salah is known for rarely speaking to the media, yet when he does, he tends to deliver “fire” as Arne Slot found to his cost in December 2025.

The Egyptian felt insulted by the Dutchman’s decision to leave him out of the starting XI against Leeds, meaning he had been benched for the third time in a week.

Salah did not play a minute against West Ham and was given the second half against Sunderland in a 1-1 draw, but felt so scorned after being left on the bench at Elland Road that he issued fierce criticism of his manager and Liverpool as a whole following the game.

"I don't know why it always happens to me. 'We throw Mo under the bus because he's the problem.' I don't think I'm the problem. To me, it seems like someone doesn't want me at the club,” he claimed.

He would return, but it looked like the writing was on the wall for his departure.
