Victor Osimhen has once again told Chelsea they made a massive mistake by not signing him during the 2025 summer transfer window.

The Nigeria international was heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge last year, following a successful loan spell at Galatasaray, but the Blues were unwilling to break their wage structure to secure his signature and the proposed transfer collapsed.

Manchester United was also touted as a potential destination for the 27-year-old, however the Red Devils opted against finalising a deal too and Osimhen eventually completed a permanent move back to Galatasaray for a transfer fee of €75 million.

Since the switch, Osimhen has been in red-hot form and he has continued to cement his place as one of the best strikers in world football, despite the fact he doesn’t play in one of Europe’s biggest leagues.

The Nigerian has shone in the Champions League so far this term, netting seven goals in the competition, and he provided the assist for Mario Lemina’s goal during the first-leg of their last-16 tie against Liverpool on Tuesday night.

Furthermore, on a day in which Chelsea failed to break down a resolute Newcastle United defence, Osimhen bagged his 19th goal of the season during Galatasaray’s 3-0 win over Basaksehir.

Liam Delap’s woes continue

Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior has enjoyed a fairly successful start to life in west London, but a 5-2 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday and a narrow 1-0 loss versus Newcastle on Saturday has severely dampened spirits.

Their ability to progress in the Champions League this year and qualify for next season’s competition have both been hit hard by the two results and Chelsea now face an uphill battle for the remainder of the season.

Against Newcastle on Saturday evening, Rosenior turned to summer signing Liam Delap at half-time in a bid to provide additional attacking threat alongside Joao Pedro. However, the Englishman was once again an underwhelming performer.

He missed one guilt-edged chance with his left foot from inside the penalty area, while he was also unable to find the back of the net with three other shots during his 45-minute cameo.

As a result, it means Delap has only scored one goal in 21 Premier League games for Chelsea and he has netted just twice across all competitions in 2025-26.

Big things were expected of the 23-year-old upon his arrival from Ipswich Town, but he has failed to deliver in a Chelsea shirt and Osimhen continues to prove that the Blues should’ve pulled out all the stops to sign him instead.
