Arsenal and Man Utd on alert as Premier League side ‘will listen to offers’ for €50m striker
Crystal Palace are set to be active in the transfer market in 2026, with several of their biggest stars being targeted by Premier League rivals.
Marc Guehi is bound to leave on a free transfer when his contract expires, while Adam Wharton and Daniel Munoz are set to be targeted by bigger clubs.
While Palace might fight to retain these stars, one player they may be willing to sell is Jean-Philippe Mateta in a revelation made by The Sun that will have caught the attention of both Arsenal and Manchester United.
Jean-Philippe Mateta: Palace don’t want to repeat Guehi mistake
Crystal Palace are determined not to repeat the error they made with Marc Guehi. The England international will leave the South London club for nothing next summer, despite having a peak career Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €54.2 million.
Missing out on such a payday is devastating for a club like Palace, and with Mateta’s deal up in 2027, they appreciate they cannot afford to miss out on another such windfall.
While the Eagles will open contract talks with Guehi, there is an acceptance that if no deal can be agreed with him, he will have to be sold.
Palace have optimistically placed an asking price of €57m (£50m) on the France international forward, whose ETV stands at €37.6m.
Mateta is thought to be open to leaving the club, with the 28-year-old’s wage demands unlikely to be met by the Selhurst Park outfit.
Man Utd or Arsenal: Which club suits Mateta more?
Both Manchester United and Arsenal are a good fit for Mateta, according to data analytics firm SciSports.
Ruben Amorim’s side are thought to be a marginally better fit for the player, as they earn a Club Fit score of 75. This is calculated using various factors ranging from potential development and playing time to style and formation.
Arsenal score 72 on this front, with Mikel Arteta’s playing style not thought to play to Mateta’s strengths.
