Premier League club confirms identity of player ‘threatened at gunpoint’ in official statement
Tottenham Hotspur star Destiny Udogie has been named as the player who was allegedly threatened at gunpoint by an agent in London, the Premier League side has confirmed in a statement.
News broke earlier this week that an unnamed player had faced the dramatic circumstances following an incident that is said to have taken place on 6 September.
The Premier League club has confirmed in a statement to The Sun that the player in question was Italy international full-back Udogie.
"We have been providing support for Destiny and his family since the incident and will continue to do so. Given this is a legal matter, we cannot comment any further," the club said.
What is alleged to have happened to Udogie?
Tottenham defender Udogie is said to have had a row with an agent on a busy London street on 6 September.
Telegraph Sport reports that this was because he had declared that he would no longer be working with the representative, who is also under investigation for blackmailing and making threats against the player’s friend.
A statement from the Metropolitan Police confirmed: “Police were called at 23.14hrs on Saturday, September 6, to reports a man in his twenties had been threatened with a firearm on Cockfosters Parade, Barnet.
“Officers spoke to the victim and during the course of their investigation it was also reported another man in his twenties had also allegedly been blackmailed and threatened by the same individual.
“No injuries were reported in either incident.
“A 31-year-old man was arrested on Monday, September 8 on suspicion of possession of firearms with intent, blackmail and driving without a licence.
“He has been bailed while enquiries continue.”
Udogie, who missed the early part of the season because of a knee injury, has been playing normally for Tottenham despite the incident, which The Sun claims left him severely shaken.
