Man Utd lead race for Ajax wonderkid Jorthy Mokio

Man Utd are favourites to raid Ajax for wonderkid Jorthy Mokio, according to CaughtOffside.

The 17-year-old has previously been scouted by Chelsea, while there is ongoing interest from Tottenham and Newcastle in the young defensive midfielder.

A well-connected source explained: “Manchester United are leading the chase for Jorthy Mokio. They are already working on a project that could offer Mokio guaranteed minutes and a clear development path.”

Mokio, meanwhile, wants to move because of Ajax’s ongoing troubles on the field.

Any deal will not be possible until the summer of 2026, by which time he will have turned 18.

Amorim targets Premier League trio in midfield overhaul

Mokio is not one of the names on a three-man midfielder shortlist that The Sun reports Man Utd have drawn up.

Amorim is said to be chasing the Premier League trio of Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton and Elliot Anderson.

While none of these names are new, the report does indicate that fixing the heart of the midfield will be Amorim’s “next project” as the ongoing rebuild of his team continues.

United will chase all three players in January, but they are prepared to wait until the summer if they cannot get their hands on any of them.

Casemiro’s deal at Old Trafford will not be extended, it is added.

Barcelona set to trigger Marcus Rashford purchase option

Marcus Rashford will become a Barcelona player at the end of his loan spell at Camp Nou, with the i Paper confirming that the Catalan side intend to buy the England international.

While there have been mixed messages over the future of Rashford due to the financial difficulties of Hansi Flick’s men, his nine goal contributions to date have been sufficient to persuade them that the winger will be well worth his €30 million option.

Andre Onana determined to reclaim Man Utd No.1 shirt

Andre Onana has told Manchester United that he intends to return from his loan spell at Trabzonspor and regain the No.1 spot at Old Trafford.

The Cameroon international had an error-strewn spell as No.1 under Erik ten Hag and then Ruben Amorim before being replaced this summer by Senne Lammens, who has started his career promisingly.

The i Paper reports that Onana wants to continue at Man Utd, despite Amorim’s snub last summer.

If that proves impossible, the former Inter Milan goalkeeper will seek to find another Premier League club.

Interest in Onana persists from France, Turkey and Saudi Arabia, with United keen to get him off their books and reduce their wage bill.

Zirkzee handed last chance to prove himself at Man Utd

Joshua Zirkzee has been told it’s make-or-break time for his Manchester United career due to the ongoing shortage of attacking options at the disposal of Amorim.

With Benjamin Sesko missing due to injury, Zirkzee is liable to get first-team opportunities that he would not otherwise have been afforded. Those close to him still believe that he can have a future at the club – but it’s up to him to play well when he gets the chance, starting with Monday night’s clash against Everton.
