Estevao to Barcelona? Chelsea contract truth revealed after 'special affection' message
Estevao Willian’s agent, Andre Cury, has admitted that his client has a “special affection” for Barcelona following his stunning goal against Hansi Flick’s side on Tuesday night.
The Brazil international became just the third teenager in Champions League history to score in each of their first three starts in the competition, following Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland, when he fired home a right-footed effort during Chelsea’s 3-0 victory over Barcelona.
The 18-year-old has now scored 10 goals and provided one assist in just 1,093 minutes for club and country so far this season, averaging a goal contribution every 99 minutes.
Estevao has been lauded for a mesmeric performance versus Barca on Tuesday evening, with the Chelsea starlet getting the better of fellow wonderkid Lamine Yamal in what was billed as the battle of the two 18-year-old talents.
The Brazil winger has enjoyed an excellent start to life at Chelsea and his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) has unsurprisingly risen to a whopping €73.6 million since his summer move to Stamford Bridge. However, Cury has warned the Chelsea hierarchy that Estevao could complete a move to Barcelona in the future.
Speaking to Cadena SER on Wednesday, he admitted: “In 2019, I took [former Barcelona sporting director Eric] Abidal to Brazil to watch one of his [Estevao’s] matches, and you could already see when he was 11-years old that he was different and that he wanted to be a Ballon d'Or winner.
“I've always talked about him, and now what I said is starting to be confirmed. After I left Barca, we talked about Estevao in 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024. We went to the offices to offer the player because I believed he had a great future in world football.
“Barca isn't in a good financial position, and sometimes a deal can't be made.”
Cury continued: “The technical staff always approved Estevao's signing, and we met with Deco [current sporting director] more than once. But Deco is tied to the club because the club's finances don't allow for a signing for the future.
“For example, with Vitor Roque, the club rushed into a mistake. A player can't be signed and then, after four months, be no longer useful. With Vitor, the atmosphere wasn't right to sign Estevao.
“Think of the Neymar-[Lionel] Messi duo, it's better than just having Messi or just having Neymar.
“Estevao has five years left on his contract and is enjoying himself at Chelsea. He has a special affection for Barca.”
Estevao transfer truth
However, while Cury has claimed that Estevao has five years remaining on his current contract at Chelsea, this isn’t believed to be true.
It was widely reported that an eight-year deal had been agreed with the Brazilian upon his arrival at Stamford Bridge, and this has now been confirmed by Fabrizio Romano and The Daily Mail’s Kieran Gill in the aftermath of Cury’s comments.
Therefore, Estevao’s contract at Chelsea isn’t due to expire until 2033, when he will be 26 years old, meaning the Blues will be under absolutely no pressure to sell the teenager for a while, despite rumours of a move to Barcelona.
