Arsenal Transfer News Today: Murillo deal ‘inevitable’ as Gunners make first bid
Get the latest Arsenal transfer updates, including Murillo, Elyes Saidi, Eberechi Eze and Leandro Trossard.
Arsenal have ’serious interest’ in record-breaking Murillo deal
Arsenal are showing “serious intent” to sign Murillo from Nottingham Forest, according to a report from CaughtOffside.
The Brazilian centre-back netted for Sean Dyche’s side on Saturday as they recorded a stunning 3-0 win over Liverpool at Anfield, but the 23-year-old has long caught the eye of manager Mikel Arteta thanks to his ability to advance the ball between the lines.
Murillo is seen as an option to strengthen the core of Arsenal’s defence along with Gabriel and William Saliba, although a price tag in the region of €80-90 million is likely to put the Gunners off making a January move for the player.
Nevertheless, the report indicates that “a record-breaking transfer may now be inevitable”.
Arsenal make wonderkid offer
Arsenal have had an opening offer for Auxerre wonderkid Elyes Saidi rejected by the Ligue 1 club, according to a report from AfricaFoot.
A 16-year-old Morocco U17 talent, he would be unable to join the Gunners until he turns 18, yet that does not seem to have stopped Mikel Arteta’s side from trying to secure his future as soon a possible.
Born in Toulon in December 2008, it will be January 2027 before the midfielder, who has yet to make his senior debut, can formally complete a move to the Emirates Stadium.
Arteta reveals summer Trossard deal was ‘forbidden’
Mikel Arteta says that he personally banned Leandro Trossard from leaving the club this summer.
Speaking after the Belgium international bagged his fifth goal of the season against Tottenham Hotspur, the Spaniard revealed there was never any prospect of the 30-year-old departing the club, despite lingering long-term uncertainty over what the future holds for him.
Arteta said: “For me it was forbidden for him to leave,” Arteta admitted after Arsenal’s 4-1 victory over Spurs. “No chance. I know the player that he is, and surrounded with the players that we have, he's a player that is going to make a difference for us.”
Eze hailed after North London derby hat-trick
Arteta hailed the impact of Eberechi Eze after the summer arrival bagged a hat-trick against Spurs at the weekend – becoming just the fourth player ever to do so in that clash.
“That tells you about the difficulty and what he's done today. To be fair he could have scored four or five. He's a big player who can create magic moments which unbalance a team,” he said.
“When a player has such a talent, and his desire is at that level, then these things happen. And he fully deserves it. I’m so happy for him, because since the day that he came, he brought something else to the team.
“So it’s a joy, it’s an aura that this team needed and hopefully it will give him a lot of confidence, to him and the team, that at any moment he can win us a game. And that’s the ability that he has and he certainly needs to fulfil that talent.”
