However, during his post-match interview, the Englishman admitted that Wharton was a more worthy recipient of the award following his performance at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

“I have one goal and four assists in the Premier League this season and that’s what I want to do,” Grealish told Sky Sports. “Like I said, it was difficult to do today against such a good team. They have unbelievable players.

“I can see the Man of the Match award, I think that’s coming to me, but I think it should’ve gone to Adam Wharton because, in my opinion, he was the best player on the pitch today.”

Adam Wharton to join Man Utd?

Wharton registered an 86% pass accuracy against Everton on Sunday, while he completed three tackles, three interceptions and was fouled on three occasions after yet another sublime display for Crystal Palace.

The Englishman, who was controversially excluded from Thomas Tuchel’s senior squad for the October international break, is one of three midfielders currently being pursued by Man Utd ahead of the January transfer window.

Ruben Amorim's side are desperate to bolster their options in the middle of the park and Wharton has been earmarked as a top transfer target, alongside fellow Premier League stars Elliott Anderson (Nottingham Forest) and Carlos Baleba (Brighton & Hove Albion).

Recent reports speculated that Crystal Palace may allow Wharton to leave next summer if they receive a suitable offer, and Man Utd are currently deemed to be one of the frontrunners for his signature in 2026.

However, Chelsea are long-term admirers of the former Blackburn Rovers midfielder, while Liverpool and Real Madrid have both been linked with a move in recent weeks.
