Chelsea prepare £78m bid for the Premier League's most in-form player
Chelsea are preparing a £78 million (€90m) offer for Bournemouth attacker Antoine Semenyo ahead of the January transfer window, according to a blockbuster report in Spain.
The 25-year-old has enjoyed a sublime start to the new Premier League season, registering six goals and three assists in seven English top flight games, and his form has attracted significant transfer interest.
Arsenal and Manchester United were both linked with the Ghana international over the summer, however they ultimately opted against pursuing a deal, and Semenyo has now emerged as a key transfer target for Chelsea.
That is according to Spanish publication Fichajes, who claim that Enzo Maresca’s side are ready to submit a £78m bid for Semenyo next year.
It remains to be seen if the Blues will target a deal during the January transfer window or if they will wait until next summer, but Semenyo has reportedly been identified as “the ideal player to lead their new era.”
Chelsea signed five new attackers over the summer - namely Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Estevao Willian, Jamie Gittens and Alejandro Garnacho - however their depth has been tested amid an injury crisis at Stamford Bridge, and Semenyo, who is capable of playing across the forward line, has now emerged as a top target for 2026.
Chelsea interested in signing Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo
Following Semenyo’s match-winning performance against Fulham on Friday night, in which he scored twice and provided one assist, ex-Watford striker Troy Deeney told BBC Sport: “I'm running out of words for this guy - he just keeps scoring.
“He was relatively quiet against Fulham but somehow he goes from strength to strength. We didn't see much of him for 70 minutes but all of a sudden he's got two goals - running at players with pace and intent.
“He's developed into a top player that top clubs must be looking at. He has signed a new deal at Bournemouth but I can see the likes of Tottenham and Chelsea being interested.”
Semenyo’s contract at Bournemouth isn’t due to expire until 2030, while his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) currently stands at £38.89m (€44.8m) and is likely to rise exponentially if his immense form continues.
