Chelsea will be at the front of the queue for Aston Villa attacker Morgan Rogers next year if they feel he can be signed for a reasonable price, according to a report.

The England international has endured a difficult start to the season with the Birmingham club. Aston Villa hadn't netted a single goal until Tuesday night, when they finally managed to get on the scoresheet in their Carabao Cup loss to Brentford.

Naturally, given Villa's struggles, Rogers' impact has been limited so far this term, which is a far cry from last season when the 23-year-old was nothing short of sensational.

He attracted significant interest over the summer, but Villa made it clear to his suitors that he wasn't for sale, even in the face of their struggles to comply with Profitability and Sustainability Rules and Financial Fair Play.

It remains to be seen if they will be able to fend off interest in him again next year, but the early signs look inauspicious. Chelsea are huge admirers of the versatile attacker, and Villa's struggles are emboldening the Blues.

Chelsea to sign Rogers in 2026?

According to The Sun, suggestions that Villa could hand Rogers a second new contract in less than 12 months to entice him to stay have little substance. There has been next to no progress, and Chelsea are keenly watching developments in Birmingham.

Rogers did not try to force through a transfer this summer, but it is unclear if he is willing to stay beyond this season, given the significant interest in his services.

Villa may have to grapple with stringent financial regulations again next summer, potentially forcing them to cash in on Rogers. Should this indeed prove to be the case, Chelsea would be at the front of the queue for him.

The report claims that the Blues would have 'little hesitation' to make a move for the 23-year-old next year if they were to receive signs that he could be had for a reasonable price.

Reports have claimed that Chelsea could pay as much as £86 million ($117m) for Rogers, but it is no surprise that they would rather not spend that much. Should Villa's on-pitch struggles continue, Rogers' price will drop, making a move all the more likely.
