LAFC find ‘SENSATIONAL’ Giroud replacement in the Premier League
LAFC has already identified the player they want to replace Olivier Giroud, with the MLS club aiming to pull off a major transfer coup.
Giroud left after 18 underwhelming months in California on a free transfer. He has since joined Ligue 1 side Lille.
His departure leaves a void up front for the franchise, and they’re now targeting Tottenham Hotspur’s second-highest Premier League scorer, Son Heung-min, to fill it, according to TBR Football.
Spurs head coach Thomas Frank is reportedly “open” to selling the South Korean winger, with LAFC now leading the race to sign the 32-year-old.
He would join the MLS club as a Designated Player, with the Los Angeles side currently holding two open DP slots on their roster.
Son will have the freedom to determine his next move this summer. He is expected to share his plans with Frank when he returns to North London for preseason training. A potential transfer to the Saudi Pro League is also thought to be on the table.
There’s a belief that at age 32, Son may struggle to keep up with the high-intensity system Frank favors, which explains the manager’s openness to a departure—despite Son having captained Spurs to Europa League glory in May.
He would leave as a club icon, having scored 127 Premier League goals for Tottenham.
Son Heung-min: A potential blockbuster signing for LAFC
Son has already seen his former Tottenham teammate Hugo Lloris join LAFC, a team otherwise lacking in star power.
Primarily a left winger, Son wouldn’t be a like-for-like replacement for Giroud, but he would bring top-tier talent and international appeal.
Although the BMO Stadium club scores only a 48 Club Fit rating for Son—based on various factors like potential development, playing time, tactical fit, and playing style—at this stage of his career, the move would likely be more about lifestyle than football.
