But Carnesecchi will not come cheap, with TuttoAtalanta reporting that Atalanta have informed United that they value the goalkeeper at €45-50 million.

Atalanta do not intend to sell Carnesecchi this summer unless they receive an irresistible offer in that region.

Carnesecchi to replace Onana?

Carnesecchi was one of the best goalkeepers in Serie A last season as Atalanta finished third.

After Roma’s Mile Svilar, the Italian was arguably the most consistent goalkeeper in the division.

A brilliant shot-stopper with a massive frame and good personality, Carnesecchi has impressed Man Utd scouts who are searching for a replacement for Andre Onana.

United bought the Cameroonian for a fee of around €55 million from Inter in 2023 but he has been a big disappointment.

Big things were expected of the Cameroonian, who had enjoyed an outstanding Champions League season with the Nerazzurri in 2022-23, playing a key role in their run to the final.

He kept more clean sheets than anyone in the tournament, including five in the knockout rounds, as Inter narrowly and unluckily lost 1-0 to Man City in the showpiece in June. He was also heralded as the best goalkeeper in the world with the ball at his feet.

However, Onana endured an error-prone first season in the Premier League, with United having their worst defensive record and most goals conceded in decades.

He made a string of mistakes, in particular in the Champions League group stage elimination in games against Galatasaray, Copenhagen and Bayern Munich.

This past season Onana improved a touch earlier in the campaign but he reverted to his first season's form in the second half of the campaign as United went trophyless and finished 15th - their worst finish in decades.
