Chelsea bombshell: European giants explore deal for 'the future of the club'

Borussia Dortmund are reportedly “exploring a deal” for Chelsea defender Josh Acheampong amid continued speculation regarding his future.
The 19-year-old signed a new long-term contract at Stamford Bridge last winter, following intense rumours of an exit, and he is regarded as one of the brightest prospects in English football.
Acheampong impressed during seven first-team appearances in the Europa Conference League last term, and many Chelsea fans believe he deserves to be the back-up option to Reece James - instead of Malo Gusto.
However, the England U19 international, who played the entire 90 minutes during Chelsea’s 3-0 win over ES Tunis in their final group stage fixture of the 2025 Club World Cup, is being courted by some of the biggest clubs in Europe.
Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool and Real Madrid were all monitoring his situation before he opted to sign a new Chelsea contract in December, while The Independent state that Borussia Dortmund are now “exploring” a potential summer transfer.
The report even indicates that Acheampong could be available for a fee of just €41 million (£35m) this summer.
The defender is eager to be given more first-team opportunities and Chelsea could reportedly consider a sale to Dortmund if it provides them with favourable terms to sign Jamie Gittens.
The Blues have reached a breakthrough in negotiations to land the England U21 winger, although enabling Acheampong to join Dortmund could help their cause further.

Chelsea to keep Josh Acheampong
However, despite reports that Chelsea could offload Acheampong this summer, The Daily Mail’s Kieran Gill has asserted that Enzo Maresca’s side have “no intention” of selling the teenager.
He is seen as a “potential star of Chelsea’s future” and the club are therefore eager to retain his services.
Acheampong also has four years remaining on his current deal at Stamford Bridge, so Chelsea will not be forced into a sale.
