Major Liverpool transfer news confirmed by Ornstein as Slot shatters his personal transfer record

Liverpool are set for a busy summer in the transfer market, with David Ornstein confirming a ground-breaking deal for manager Arne Slot.
The Anfield club have been boosted in recent weeks as both Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk have signed new contracts but on the other hand Trent Alexander-Arnold has confirmed his exit, with a move to Real Madrid on the cards.
Replacing the England international right-back is a leading priority for the Premier League champions, with Ornstein confirming that Liverpool have put Bayer Leverkusen's Jeremie Frimpong at the top of their transfer shortlist.
The details of why Liverpool are just so keen on Frimpong are detailed in The Athletic.
Jeremie Frimpong: Why Liverpool want Leverkusen ace
- Relatively low value of his release clause
- Homegrown status
- Personal terms not a problem
There are numerous factors playing into Liverpool’s hands, with the most obvious of these being that Frimpong will be able to move for the value of his €35 million release clause.
Frimpong has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €55m, meaning that he will arrive as a bargain signing who has immense sell-on value even if the move to Anfield doesn’t work out as planned.
Furthermore, he has ‘homegrown’ status in the eyes of UEFA, having played for Manchester City’s youth team for nine years. This is a valuable commodity that allows the Reds more flexibility when making deals elsewhere in the squad.
Finally, Frimpong will also fit nicely into the Reds’ wage structure, likely arriving on a smaller contract than the one Alexander-Arnold was on.

Record deal for Slot
When Frimpong arrives at Liverpool, he will become the most expensive signing of Arne Slot’s managerial career, despite the relative bargain price tag on the head of the defender.
Going into this summer, the Dutchman has only spent €104m on players over the course of his career, with €12m of that on Federico Chiesa from Juventus last summer.
The signing of the Italian was the most expensive deal he has struck prior to the agreement to bring Giorgi Mamardashvili to the club from Valencia for €30m.
Frimpong’s €35m will eclipse that, setting a new transfer record for Slot.
