The Gunners experienced another season of significant progress under the guidance of manager Mikel Arteta, finishing as runners-up in the Premier League and taking the title chase down to the final day.

Among the players in the squad that pushed Pep Guardiola’s side so hard were Cedric Soares and Mohamed Elneny, yet both have been predictably allowed to depart in the summer.

The club said in a statement: “Ahead of the official Premier League announcement of all men’s players who will be out of contract at their current clubs on June 30, we are taking this opportunity to thank those players leaving us at the end of the month.

“We are saying goodbye to the following men’s players and scholars, and have also included the three women’s players we have previously announced will also be departing.”

Cedric had been with the Gunners since the 2019/20 season, when he arrived from Sampdoria, but never held down a regular first-team slot. He played 64 times for the club, scoring twice.

Elneny, meanwhile, had been a fringe player since arriving from FC Basel in January 2015. Like Cedric, he struggled to force himself into the starting XI but he did manage 161 outings for the club.

Arsenal have also confirmed that Amario Cozier-Duberry, Karl Hein and Reuell Walters are still in talks with the club.

Meanwhile, perhaps the most significant name to appear on Arsenal’s list of released players is Vivienne Miedema, who is one of three members of the Ladies team to depart the Gunners.

The 29-year-old is the WSL’s record scorer with 125 goals and has been rumoured to be close to joining Manchester City.
