Manchester United have decided to sack Erik ten Hag after the FA Cup final, according to The Guardian.

The decisive hours for Erik ten Hag's future have come. Man Utd face Man City at Wembley in the FA Cup final in 24 hours and it increasingly looks as though it will be the Dutchman's last game in charge.

Ten Hag led Man Utd to their lowest league finish since 1990, with the Red Devils not mustering more than eighth place in the Premier League table. They also crashed out of the Champions League group stage in embarrassing fashion, while several of Ten Hag's signings, chief among them €95 million winger Antony, have failed to have an impact.

On Thursday, Italian transfer expert Gianluca di Marzio revealed in an interview that Man Utd had made the decision to sack Ten Hag after the FA Cup final regardless of the outcome. This has now been corroborated by a second source.

Man Utd sack Ten Hag

According to The Guardian, it is true that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS 'allies' have decided to pull the trigger on Ten Hag after the showpiece at Wembley.

This comes after new technical director Jason Wilcox led an audit into Ten Hag's work and dressing room relations. It seems the results of this investigation were not particularly satisfactory despite a somewhat positive end to the Premier League season with victories over Newcastle and Brighton.

Man Utd's only hope of getting into European football (the Europa League) rests on beating City, but even if they manage to achieve this, Ten Hag's time at Old Trafford will come to an end. Thomas Tuchel, Kieran McKenna, Mauricio Pochettino, Graham Potter and Thomas Frank are thought to be the top options to replace the Dutchman.
