Manchester United could have a decision to make this summer over Mason Greenwood, with Milan being the latest European side to monitor the situation surrounding the striker.

Greenwood has not played for United since January 2022 when he was arrested, however charges against him have since been dropped, prompting speculation over his future at the club.

United have launched their own internal process over Greenwood and would reportedly consider integrating him back into the first team if he agrees to a TV interview and continued therapy sessions.

FUTURE: What's next for Greenwood?

However, the club are aware of the reaction that arise if Greenwood were to play for United again and teams across Europe are using the uncertainty as an opportunity to explore the prospect of signing the 21-year-old.

Spanish outlet Relevo claim Milan are one of those sides who ‘appreciate the technical qualities’ of Greenwood and there is a belief that he would look forward to resuming his career outside of England.

United are not expected to make a decision on Greenwood before the end of the season but the club are understood to have turned down approaches in January from Turkish sides to loan the forward.

What does the future hold for Mason Greenwood?

Greenwood has two years remaining on his contract with United and was touted as the club’s brightest prospect before he faced charges of attempted rape, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and controlling and coercive behaviour.

United are in the market for a new striker this summer and they are believed to be chasing the likes of Harry Kane, Victor Osimhen and Goncalo Ramos to fill the void up front.

While Erik ten Hag has refused to comment on Greenwood’s future, the club may see the summer as the best opportunity to cash in on the player and avoid any controversy surrounding a potential return to the first team.

However, Greenwood is believed to have a desire to return to the club and the door has been left open for him to be reintegrated into the first team, although the situation is understandably delicate and may not be resolved until the start of next season.
