Mason Mount has been a frustrated figure this season and there are fears that the midfielder’s contract situation at Chelsea is impacting his discipline on the pitch.

Contract talks between Mount and Chelsea have stalled in recent months and the academy graduate could be sold this summer if no agreement can be reached, with his current deal set to expire next summer.

Mount is reportedly looking to be made one of the highest earners at Chelsea but the club are reluctant to hand the 24-year-old a lucrative new contract while his form has been plummeting over the past 18 months.

The Sun report that members of Chelsea’s dressing room are concerned over Mount’s attitude following his contractual stand off and there is a belief his frustrations have leaked onto the pitch after he received his second booking in three games against Tottenham.

Mount is suspended for Chelsea’s Champions League knockout tie against Dortmund after receiving his third yellow card of the tournament in the first leg and he was booked against Spurs for dissent, with both offences coming in a combined total of just 47 minutes on the pitch.

“At the moment, Mason looks like he wants to fight the world when really he just wants to win things. With Chelsea,” a source told The Sun. “You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to make the link between Mason’s frustration and his contract situation.”

Is Mount heading for a Chelsea exit?

Chelsea do not want to end their association with a player who has been with the club since the age of six, while Mount is also understood to be keen on extending his deal, but neither side have been willing to back down in negotiations thusfar.

Mount has not played a full 90 minutes in the past eight games and the England international has scored just three goals this season – the least in any campaign in his career so far.

Chelsea have won just two of their last 15 games under Graham Potter and Mount’s poor form has done nothing to ease the pressure on the Blues boss.

Liverpool and Manchester City are among the sides believed to be monitoring the situation and, while Chelsea would not want to sell Mount to anyone, let alone a league rival, optimism is fading over whether an agreement can be reached, meaning the player could be sold in the summer to avoid leaving on a free next year.
