Cristiano Ronaldo and Jorge Mendes have ended their long-standing relationship following the forward’s disappointment over the agent’s failure to land him a big transfer.

Ronaldo left Manchester United in November after his contract was terminated by the club following his controversial unsanctioned interview with Piers Morgan where he was critical of the side.

Ronaldo was hoping to move to a top-level Champions League club but was unable to do so and ended up joining Al Nassr in the Saudi Pro League where he recently made his league debut.

However, he is no longer with long-term agent Mendes following their split, which happened before his move to the Middle East last month.

Ronaldo and Mendes split last year

It’s been revealed that Ronaldo was disappointed in Mendes for not being able to land him a move to either Chelsea or Bayern Munich when he was a free agent.

Ronaldo wanted to leave Manchester United in the summer after the club’s failure to qualify for the Champions League but there was no serious interest in him from European sides.

Clubs were reluctant to sign him due to his age, high fee and lack of tactical fit and that meant Ronaldo had to stay at Manchester United until his contract was terminated.

There was little interest from European sides after he left Manchester United as he was without a club for a month and his interview with Piers Morgan would not have helped his case.

Mendes has been Ronaldo’s agent for much of his career, facilitating moves for him to Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus before they split up at the end of last year.

Ronaldo has proven to be his most prominent client and the agent himself has often spoken about his pride in representing the player, labelling him as the greatest footballer of all time on several occasions.
