Chelsea transfer target Benjamin Sesko could be on his way to Stamford Bridge next summer despite agreeing a move to RB Leipzig.

Sesko agreed a deal to swap RB Salzburg for RB Leipzig at the start of next season, and he is set to play for them in the 2023-24 campaign.

The Slovenian forward was linked to a number of top clubs, such as Manchester United and Chelsea, but he ended up agreeing to move to the German club for a fee of €24 million.

This fee fell a long way short of what Salzburg were asking of other clubs in the transfer window, raising further questions about the relationship between the two teams.

Now, though, there is hope of a transfer for the likes of Chelsea, even before Sesko has kicked a ball for Leipzig.

Indeed, Sesko's agent was pictured with Blues owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali during the west London club's win over Salzburg on Tuesday.

Sesko could leave Leipzig next summer

Manchester United were the main contenders for Sesko's signature in the summer - the club were impressed with the form he showed towards the end of last season.

Erik ten Hag is keen to bring a forward to the club, with Marcus Rashford currently leading the line, Anthony Martial often struggling for fitness and Cristiano Ronaldo told he can leave in January.

Chelsea also showed interest late on in the window and were willing to spend big to bring the youngster to Stamford Bridge.

Instead, The Blues made the Deadline Day acquisition of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, but have made it clear they want a more youth-centred approach to transfers in the future.

Sesko is one of the brightest attacking prospects anywhere in European football, so it will cost €60 million to buy him from Leipzig next summer, according to reports.
