Marseille are interested in signing Manchester United defender, in what would be another move for a former Premier League player for the French club.

Igor Tudor’s side have targeted the Ivorian defender and are hoping to get the deal over the line ahead of Jose Mourinho’s Roma, who are also interested in bringing the player over to Italy.

Bailly is free to leave Manchester United, with the club having others above him in the pecking order for this season and his injury record not being the most appealing.

Marseille have emerged as an option for Bailly, as they’re looking to let go of one of their own players, Duje Caleta-Car in order to make space for Bailly.

Bailly open to move

Reports in France suggest that Marseille have already had contact with Bailly over a possible transfer, with a view to loan him to the Velodrome for the upcoming season.

Manchester United, however, want to see him leave on a permanent deal, but would not be opposed to a loan deal if the conditions are right.

There is also a belief that Bailly himself is open to the idea of moving to France and would not oppose the transfer to Marseille, should they negotiate terms with Manchester United.

For the move to happen, it’s almost necessary for Marseille to sell Caleta-Car to make up space, and they’re keen to see him leave this year as his contract runs out at the end of the season.

Should Bailly move to Marseille, he would join Nuno Tavares, Alexis Sanchez, Jordan Veretout, Jordan Amavi and Dimitri Payet as the former Premier League players currently playing in the south coast of France.

Tavares joined Marseille earlier in the summer on a loan deal from Arsenal, while Sanchez terminated his deal at Inter to move to the French side earlier this week.
