RB Leipzig forward Brian Brobbey is set to pick re-joining Ajax over continuing his development under Erik ten Hag at the Dutchman's new club, Manchester United.

Ten Hag, 52, has begun his role at the helm of the Old Trafford coach in excellent fashion, beating Liverpool 4-0 and Melbourne Victory 4-1 in his opening two fixtures in charge.

He arrived at Old Trafford with big summer transfer plans as he prepared to overhaul the squad available to him. However, it's mostly been about outgoings rather than incomings so far. Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Edinson Cavani have all left following the expiration of their contracts, while Dean Henderson has joined Nottingham Forest on loan.

Tyrell Malacia has been the only arrival so far, with the full-back joining from Feyenoord to provide competition for Luke Shaw and Alex Telles.

However, advanced talks with both Frenkie de Jong and Lisandro Martinez are ongoing, with Ten Hag managing them both during his time at Ajax.

Antony, another of Ten Hag's Ajax pupils has been linked with a move, while the aforementioned Brobbey is another name who has been in the news, with rumours of a potential switch to the Red Devils. Man Utd are on the lookout for forward additions following news that Cristiano Ronaldo wishes to leave the club.

The Portuguese superstar has informed the Red Devils that he would like them to accept any appropriate bid that comes in for him this summer as he wants to continue playing Champions League football. However, he may well stay at Old Trafford after both Chelsea and Bayern Munich rejected Jorge Mendes' offer to sign him.

Anthony Martial has also been used through the middle by Ten Hag in pre-season, and may be given a second chance at the club after impressing his new head coach with two goals in two games.

Either way, Brobbey, who has been on Man Utd's radar this summer, will reportedly not be arriving. That is according to De Telegraaf, who have reported that Brobbey has chosen to return to Ajax on a permanent basis.

Brobbey back to Ajax

Brobbey spent the second-half of last season back on loan at the Eredivisie giants, after leaving for RB Leipzig in 2021.

He now wants to return to his boyhood club, which is set to happen according to Dutch reports. The supposed fee that Ajax will pay for him to return is €17 million, just 12 months after he left the club on a free transfer.

Brobbey scored seven goals and assisted one in just 11 Eredivisie appearances in his loan spell back at Ajax during the 2021/22 campaign, and is set to return to Amsterdam this summer.
