Chelsea will have to register Lukaku by 23:00 on Tuesday if the No.9 is to feature in Wednesday’s Super Cup showdown with Villarreal in Belfast, though the main concern for manager Thomas Tuchel will simply be getting the deal over the line in the first place.

Lukaku is set to become Chelsea’s record signing, with a €115 million (£97.5m) fee agreed with Inter.

How much will Lukaku earn at Chelsea?

Lukaku, who previously played with the Blues from 2011 to 2014, will sign a five-year deal with the club that is set to be lucrative for him personally.

According to Sky Sports, he will earn £200,000 per week over five years, meaning that his contract is worth £52m over the period before bonuses.

In total, then, Chelsea are committed to spending just short of £150m on the Belgium international, who they sold for £28m to Everton.

Since then, Lukaku has developed into one of the most prolific players in European football. Even during a period with Manchester United, which lasted two years as he was branded a flop, he scored 42 goals in 96 games.

His career has enjoyed a rebirth at Inter, though, with Lukaku scoring 64 times in 95 outings for the Nerazzurri, who he led to a shock Serie A triumph in 2020/21.

Despite the big money that Inter are set to recoup for the forward, though, some figures around the club are angry that so many members of the title-winning squad have been allowed to depart so readily.

For the 28-year-old Lukaku, though, the move back to Chelsea promises to be one that he is very richly rewarded for indeed.
