Cristiano Ronaldo 'furious' with Al-Nassr over lack of transfer activity
Cristiano Ronaldo is on the point of refusing to play for Al-Nassr due to his unhappiness with the manner in which the club is being run.
A sensational report from A Bola has revealed that Ronaldo is furious at the lack of investment in the squad that he is ready to sit out Monday’s Saudi Pro League match against Al-Riyadh.
While the local press have reported that the Portuguese will be rested ahead of Friday’s match with Al-Ittihad, back in his homeland it is claimed that the Manchester United and Real Madrid legend is simply seething with what he feels is the mismanagement of his club.
Why is Ronaldo unhappy at Al-Nassr?
“According to our source at Al-Nassr, Cristiano Ronaldo is unhappy with the way the PIF (Public Investment Fund) has been managing the club he has represented for the last three years, especially compared to the treatment given to rival clubs, also managed by the same fund,” A Bola reports.
Al-Nassr have only made one signing in the transfer window: 21-year-old midfielder Haydeer Adbulkareem.
Meanwhile, the sporting director and CEO of Al-Nassr both had their powers at the club frozen at the beginning of the transfer window.
Saudi planning big new investment
Ronaldo’s fury comes at a time when the Saudi Pro League is reported to be planning a sweeping new recruitment drive in the summer, in which 50 world-class stars have been placed on an ambitious shortlist. Among these players are Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner, though, feels that Al-Nassr’s rival clubs have been given preferential treatment in the January transfer window. Al-Hilal notably spent €30 million on Kader Meite from Rennes and also invested €2m in Pablo Mari from Fiorentina. Karim Benzema may follow along with €30m defensive prospect Saimon Bouabre.
Al-Nassr coach Jorge Jesus previously complained in mid-January that his side “doesn’t have the political power of Al-Hilal”.
Ronaldo only has 18 months left on his deal at Al-Nassr, but even before this outburst, it was claimed that his future at the club was growing short.
Despite raising the profile of the Saudi Pro League successfully, Ronaldo has not enjoyed much team success at Al-Nassr, with the Arab Champions Cup in 2023 his sole silverware.
