Cristiano Ronaldo was in sparkling form for Al-Nassr on Friday as he helped the Saudi Pro League side to a 4-3 home victory over Al-Ahli Saudi.

Ronaldo opened the scoring after four minutes in rather controversial circumstances as Al-Ahli goalkeeper Edouard Mendy apparently had no view of the forward because of a smoke bomb that had been released behind his goal.

Talisca added another two before the break, with Franck Kessie netting for the visitors.

Early in the second, Riyad Mahrez netted from the penalty spot for Al-Ahli but Ronaldo put the game out of reach thanks to his ninth goal in just six league appearances this season. The strike from the Portuguese legend rendered Feras Albrikan’s late reply no more than a consolation.

After leading his side to victory, Ronaldo, who is now 38, was questioned over his plans.

“I still love football. Even at my age, I love to play, score goals and win games,” he revealed. “I’m going to keep playing until my legs say: ‘Cristiano, it’s over.’

“Until that time, I will keep playing and keep helping the team.”

Saudi Pro League getting stronger all the time

Ronaldo reiterated his belief that the Saudi Pro League is improving in quality, with three of the scorers in Al-Nassr’s Friday match having played in the Champions League for leading clubs.

“We have great players,” the forward said. “The league is getting better and better, and the Saudi people deserve it because they are great people.

“It was a great match. We played very well against a great team. We started very well, we scored two goals and it was also a great match for the fans.”

Al-Nassr are presently fifth in the Saudi Pro League table but are in the midst of a five-match winning sequence, while they have also scored more goals than any other side in the division.
