An update on Brendan Rodgers' future at Celtic
Celtic are planning to hand Brendan Rodgers a contract extension, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Hoops are coming off a summer of significant upheaval. Club bosses were heavily criticised for not properly strengthening the side and for failing to adequately replace departed players.
Manager Rodgers, too, has had to face the music due to Celtic's embarrassing Champions League exit against Kairat Almaty and an overall failure to be competitive in Europe.
Some Celtic supporters believe that a new approach is needed to revitalise the perennial Scottish champions, who are currently two points behind league leaders Hearts in the Premiership table.
The upcoming summer could offer just such an opportunity to make a change and give the team a fresh impulse as Rodgers' contract is expiring. However, according to Fabrizio Romano, club chiefs want to do the exact opposite.
Celtic want Rodgers to stay
The transfer insider has revealed that Celtic want Rodgers to stay beyond 2026 and that 'they will try their best to keep him.' If he were to leave in 2026, it would be due to a desire for a new challenge on his part, not the other way around.
"There are clubs interested in Rodgers, so an exit in summer 2026 is a possibility," Romano told GIVEMESPORT. "But it is not a guarantee yet. Celtic will try their best to keep him."
Romano did not reveal which clubs are courting Rodgers, but the 52-year-old will surely have Premier League suitors. He returned to Parkhead in 2023 after four years at Leicester City, during which he won the FA Cup and Community Shield.
Across his two stints at Celtic, Rodgers has won four Premiership titles, four League Cups and three Scottish Cups. However, the Bhoys suffered a hugely disappointing 2-0 defeat to Braga in the Europa League earlier this month, which massively increased the fans' frustration with the situation.
