FC Midtjylland release statement as player undergoes life-saving surgery after being stabbed
FC Midtjylland star Alamara Djabi is recovering in hospital after undergoing life-saving surgery following a stabbing attack.
The 19-year-old, who made an appearance in a Europa League qualifier earlier this campaign, was attacked in the Danish city of Herning at around 3.30am on Sunday.
He has undergone two life-saving surgeries and is now in recovery, according to his club.
“Alamara Djabi was seriously injured in a stabbing and is now in stable condition after two operations, " a FC Midtjylland statement read.
“He has woken up from an induced coma and is doing well under the circumstances.
“FC Midtjylland is in close dialogue and collaboration with the authorities and supports him and his family.
“Out of respect for the police’s ongoing investigation, including witness interviews and investigations, we have no further comments.
“We ask for the public’s understanding and call for respect for the privacy of Alamara Djabi and his loved ones in this difficult situation.
“Alamara Djabi has not been selected for the first team for a long time and was not in the game for the upcoming matches.
“Our thoughts are with our teammate, his family and friends, and we wish him continued recovery.”
Djabi joined the Danish giants last summer and has made one senior appearance this season, that aforementioned Europa League qualifier versus Finnish side KuPS. He has been on the bench in the competition for matches against Roma, Genk and Roma.
Danish publication Tipsbladet said Djabi was 'in danger of death' following the attack and immediately underwent emergency surgery on Sunday morning.
Police have confirmed that they are looking for a 20-year-old light-skinned man with short, dark hair in relation to the incident.
