Johan Vonlanthen is the second-youngest goalscorer in European Championship history thanks to his strike against France at Euro 2004.

The former Switzerland international scored his nation’s only goal of the tournament in the 26th minute of a 3-1 defeat to France in the final group stage game. He was just 18 years and 141 days old at the time.

Wayne Rooney is the third-youngest goalscorer at the European Championship. The England legend netted against Switzerland at Euro 2004 aged just 18 years and 237 days old.

He scored a brace during the game, and was briefly the youngest ever Euros goalscorer before Vonlanthen broke the record.

In fourth place is Renato Sanches. He burst onto the scene at Euro 2016, winning the Young Player of the Tournament award, and played a key role in Portugal’s eventual victory.

Sanches scored his only goal of the tournament against Poland in the quarter-final. He was only 18 years and 317 days old at the time.

Dragan Stojkovic is the fifth-youngest European Championship goalscorer. He scored for Yugoslavia against France at Euro 1984 when he was just 19 years and 108 days old.

Cristiano Ronaldo is in sixth place, courtesy of his header versus eventual winners Greece at Euro 2004. The Portuguese football legend was aged 19 years and 128 days old when he nodded home a Luis Figo corner.

Ferenc Bene (Hungary) was 19 years and 183 days old when he netted against Spain at Euro 1964, which is good enough to ensure his spot in seventh place.

Cristian Chivu is eighth after his goal against England at Euro 2000, while Patrick Kluivert is the ninth-youngest goalscorer in Euros history. The Netherlands legend scored at Euro 1996 aged 19 years and 353 days old.

Pietro Anastasi completes the top 10.
