Real Madrid seemed to have stormed into the market with a blockbuster move for RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande worth more than €130 million. The deal was reportedly done days ago, so what’s holding up the move?
The Diomande deal is one that seems to have attracted conflict, not least because of the manner in which it has been reportedly.
Transfer insiders Florian Plettenberg and Fabrizio Romano were involved in a Twitter spat over the reporting of the deal, with Sky Sport Deutschland’s correspondent insistent that the Italian’s report that the move has been finalised is incorrect.

It appears Plettenberg is correct, for what appeared to be an inevitable transfer has slowed to the pace of a snail amid legal disputes raging in the background.
Explaining the delay in Diomande to Real Madrid
An agency dispute is holding up Diomande’s move to Real Madrid, but this is not a fresh development. The problems between Roc Nation and Maxidel Management have been an issue for months, though AS claims, somewhat remarkably, that Real Madrid were unaware of the problems.
The Spanish source has finally admitted that the difficulty could “significantly impact the registration of the winger.”
While Roc Nation has taken the lead in negotiations, Maxidel is still owed a portion of the overall transfer fee, and according to AS, it is this concern that is blocking Diomande’s dream move.

FIFA has received a complaint and is studying the case.
Los Blancos are seeking to find a way around the problem and believe that Diomande could be given a provisional license.
‘Roc Nation’s amateurish is gravely serious’
French investigative journalist Romain Molina has been following the case of Diomande carefully, releasing a documentary on the player, and has been scathing of the practises of Roc Nation, who also represent Vini Jr and Endrick.
But he explains on X that the delay is not solely based on the agency dispute:
“The legal procedures are slowing down Diomande's transfer since the geniuses at Roc Nation have been trying to find common ground with all parties for a few days now (because Real Madrid has received the complaints and seen the issues), even though they had been snubbing everyone for months...
“Roc Nation's amateurishness is gravely serious, but Real is no better: how could Juni Calafat possibly not have been aware?
“That said, there are also other reasons to explain this delay, whether between the two clubs or Leipzig's difficulties in finalising Diomande's successor.
“Let's be clear: no party has any interest in seeing the deal fall through. Whether it's Leipzig, the player, Roc Nation, the former agents (the company Maxidel having a percentage on the player's sale thanks to a mandate at Leipzig), or even Real, which has pushed this file full throttle at the expense of the others...”
What happens now?
It is universally acknowledged that Real Madrid and RB Leipzig want the deal for Diomande to be finalised as soon as possible.
FIFA could potentially delay a deal or even, in extreme circumstances, deny the player an International Transfer Certificate (ITC) should the dispute between the agencies reignite.
However, the likelihood is that the move will happen. AS points out: “Based on labour laws, FIFA tends to uphold the player's right to work or play for their new club.”
Diomande to Real Madrid is, therefore, in a holding pattern. The probability is stacked that the deal will be done, but the delay for Los Blancos is no less frustrating because of it.
