The potential exit of star man Alexander Isak in a British record move to Liverpool has heightened their need for a top class replacement.

Benjamin Sesko has been their first-choice target and as of Tuesday morning it appeared they were closing in on the Leipzig striker.

Newcastle turn to Jackson

They had tabled an improved second offer to Leipzig of between €80-90 million and widespread reports stated they were closing in on the Slovenia star.

But on Tuesday, Man Utd responded with a €85m bid of their own and better terms, and now it is reported in multiple outlets that Sesko is likely to join the Red Devils.

Fabrizio Romano and Nicolo Schira report that Sesko has agreed terms to join Man Utd, and subsequently Newcastle have turned elsewhere.

Schira says that Newcastle have made an approach to Chelsea about Jackson.

The striker is no longer central to Enzo Maresca's plans this coming season and Schira says that he may be sold by Chelsea.

It remains to be seen if Eddie Howe can convince Isak to stay for one more season or if the Magpies can turn around the Sesko situation.

Regardless of the outcome of these two sagas, contingency plans are being put in place to salvage what has been a tough transfer window for Newcastle.

FootballTransfers exclusively revealed on Monday that Newcastle are lining up an approach for PSG striker Goncalo Ramos, but the Portugal international isn't their only forward target.

Jackson joined Chelsea from Villarreal in the summer of 2023 for €37m.

He has scored 30 goals in 81 appearances in all competitions.

The striker has largely had a mixed time of things at Chelsea, with the consensus being that the club need an upgrade to move onto the next level.

He has won the Conference League and Club World Cup at Chelsea.
