Man Utd's top target says 'yes' to January transfer
RB Leipzig defender David Raum is reportedly keen to join Manchester United during the upcoming January transfer window.
Michael Carrick’s side failed in their pursuit of a new left-back over the summer and top target Lewis Hall has now committed his future to Newcastle United by signing a new long-term contract at St James’ Park, valid until 2031.
As a result, the Red Devils will be forced to pursue an alternative option in 2027 and they have been heavily linked with a move for Barcelona star Alejandro Balde in recent weeks, with the Spaniard expected to be available after losing his starting XI place to fellow Barca academy graduate Xavi Espart.
However, Balde isn’t the only left-back on Man Utd’s list of possible signings, with the aforementioned Raum believed to be a strong contender to join the club following several seasons of eye-catching form for RB Leipzig.
The Germany international, who was named as the new Leipzig captain ahead of the 2025-26 season, has racked up 149 senior appearances for the club since his arrival from Hoffenheim and he has been linked with a move to Old Trafford for several years.
In fact, Man Utd’s interest has not diminished and they are ready to launch an approach for his signature when the winter transfer window opens on 1 January.
That is according to TEAMtalk, who claim that Raum is keen to join Carrick’s side next year, with his current contract at Leipzig due to expire next July.
Juventus have also registered their interest in the 28-year-old, but Man Utd are willing to compete for his signature and it’s understood that he is eager to explore a possible move to the 13-time Premier League champions.
Who else will Man Utd sign next year?
In addition to signing a new left-back, with Raum one of their top targets, Man Utd are also expected to explore a possible addition at centre-back too.
Matthijs de Ligt has been linked with a potential exit after missing the past year with a serious back injury, while Harry Maguire is currently set to become a free agent in 2027 unless the Red Devils hierarchy trigger a 12-month contract extension option.
A new striker will also be signed if Man Utd are able to finally offload Joshua Zirkzee on a permanent deal, having failed to sell the Dutchman over the summer.
