Chelsea “might” be a transfer option for Liverpool attacker Florian Wirtz, according to a shock report in Germany.

The 23-year-old has endured a difficult spell at Anfield following his arrival from Bayer Leverkusen for €125 million last summer and it has been rumoured that he could leave the Reds next year.

Liverpool are believed to be looking at several attacking midfielders in the event that a sale is sanctioned, with Rayan Cherki (Manchester City) and Josh King (Fulham) both on their radar, and it’s understood that Bayern Munich are keeping a close eye on Wirtz’s situation at Anfield.

Meanwhile, German publication BILD state that Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City may all be options for Wirtz if he decides to pursue a Liverpool exit in 2027.

Liverpool are expected to demand a hefty fee to sanction a sale and with a reported annual salary of €20m, it’s claimed that Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City are three of a very select handful of clubs who could afford to sign Wirtz.

However, it remains to be seen if they are willing to entertain a deal.

While a move to Arsenal or Man City may make very little sense, it’s not the first time that Chelsea have been linked with Wirtz as their new manager Xabi Alonso famously worked with the Germany international during his stellar spell at Leverkusen, and could be interested in a reunion.

Will Florian Wirtz leave Liverpool in 2027?

While transfer rumours involving Wirtz are beginning to ramp up, it seems fairly unlikely that Liverpool will give up on the 23-year-old just yet given the vast investment they made to sign him.

Meanwhile, Andoni Iraola also remains a huge fan of the Germany international.

Speaking to reporters in September, the new Liverpool manager said: “He should be judged like everybody else, whether he plays well or doesn't play well. Mostly, I always say, 'How does the team play when you are on the pitch?’

“I am very happy with Florian, I rate him very highly, he understands what we need from him. He is trying to help in every aspect of the game. Obviously we want him to have assists and goals also, but he is helping us in a lot of different areas.”

An exit is therefore unlikely to come from Liverpool’s side, although Wirtz could feasibly push to leave if he receives a serious approach from Bayern, for example.
