Rangers agree €7.6m signing of two-time league winner

Rangers have reached an agreement with PSV to sign Couhaib Driouech.

The Gers have endured a dire start to the season - again. New manager Derek McInnes is already under pressure after just three competitive games, with Rangers yet to taste victory in this nascent campaign.

A 1-1 draw with Dundee United was followed by back-to-back 2-1 losses to Jagiellonia Bialystok in Europa League qualifying and Hibs in the Premiership, respectively.

Numerous new signings have been brought in, but the Ibrox club still face the same issues as last season. In a bid to rectify this, McInnes is now closing in on his 10th new recruit of this busy summer window.

According to Sky Sports, Rangers have agreed a €7.6 million deal with PSV for Driouech, who looks poised to become their new star attacker. The 24-year-old can play all across the frontline, but he is primarily a winger.

Rangers agree Driouech deal

On the face of it, Driouech isn't the most exciting signing for the Glasgow giants. The Gers are overpaying to secure his services - his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) stands at €4.8m - and he was only a rotation player for PSV.

However, Driouech's numbers are actually better than they seem at first. He bagged nine goals and produced eight assists in just over 1,300 minutes last season, which is a tidy return. He also performed well in the Champions League.

Driouech also has title-winning pedigree after triumphing in the Eredivisie twice with PSV. A former Morocco youth international, Driouech was being chased by numerous clubs this summer, so Rangers will feel that they have landed a coup.

Burnley and Celta Vigo were among the teams to show a concrete interest in the Dutch-born winger. Having recently had a bid for Frosinone star Fares Ghedjemis rejected, the agreement for Driouech will be a big boost for Rangers and McInnes.

"Most of the time he has to come as a substitute, since there are better options at PSV," Eredivisie expert Dylan ter Laak told FootballTransfers last week. "But in the Champions League he managed to show himself during some big matches.

"His strengths are his pace and his dribbling, even though sometimes he tries to take the dribbling too far and then ends up losing the ball.

"Scoring goals isn't his biggest asset, which showed during last season’s away game at Ajax, when he managed to miss a chance that 99.9% of the time is a goal."

Driouech may not be the finished product, but he has the potential to be a shrewd pickup for the Ibrox club. Final details still need to be ironed out, but all the signs are pointing to him becoming Rangers' next summer arrival.
