Gakpo wants to leave Liverpool to join Spurs this summer, with interest from the Londoners having emerged at the end of the season following their successful fight against Premier League relegation.

On Saturday, it was announced that the Netherlands winger has reached an agreement over personal agreement with Roberto De Zerbi’s club, while he has also informed Liverpool that he would like to make the move to London.

After two and a half seasons at Liverpool, Gakpo wants to join the summer exodus from Anfield, which was headed by Mohamed Salah and includes former Anfield team-mate Andy Robertson, who joined the London side as a free agent.

On the hunt for a left winger, De Zerbi has been left impressed by Gakpo’s profile and made the 27-year-old a priority signing.

Spurs have made a first offer to Liverpool to the Reds. According to transfer journalist Mounir Boualin, they made an offer of over £60 million – something in the region of €70-75m. Liverpool, though, are ready to gamble on receiving a higher fee for the player and are ready to reject this offer.

Meanwhile, the former PSV star has long been reported to be open to a move to Spurs.

Cody Gakpo reaches personal agreement

Liverpool's negotiating position appears to have weakened somewhat, as reports are emerging that Cody Gakpo has informed his employers of his desire to leave.

TEAMTalk reports that the Dutch international has made it clear to Liverpool's management that he wants to move to Tottenham. He has been left impressed by De Zerbi, who plans to use him as a central forward as well as a winger.

It adds that there is a “significant possibility” that Spurs will make a counteroffer that matches Liverpool’s asking price for the player.

In addition, an agreement on personal terms is said to have been reached between Gakpo and Liverpool. This news is also reported by transfer journalist Nicolo Schira.

Gakpo is said to have said 'yes' to a five-year contract at Tottenham, who will now do whatever it takes to reach an agreement with Liverpool regarding the transfer fee.
