Chelsea Transfer News Today: Adam Wharton latest as agreement confirmed
FootballTransfers runs through the latest Chelsea transfer news, rumours and gossip, including updates on Adam Wharton and Filip Jorgensen.
Adam Wharton a ‘priority’
Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton remains a “priority” transfer target for Chelsea, according to CaughtOffside.
The Englishman has been on Chelsea’s radar for several months and he remains a key option ahead of the new season, although Palace’s asking price of €100 million is likely to be a major stumbling block.
Manchester United are also actively monitoring Wharton’s situation ahead of a potential bid, while Real Madrid are keen too, but they are currently focused on alternative targets.
Filip Jorgensen agreement
Strasbourg have reached a full agreement to sign Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen on a season-long loan deal.
The 24-year-old, who joined Chelsea from Villarreal in 2024, has been in talks to join Strasbourg for several weeks and an agreement has now been struck for him to move to the Ligue 1 club for the duration of the 2026-27 campaign, as per Fabrizio Romano.
He posted on X: “Filip Jorgensen loan move from Chelsea to RC Strasbourg, finally set to be signed after documents completed today.
“Straight loan, no buy option clause. All done as Chelsea gave green light to proceed in the morning. Here we go, now confirmed.”
Jorgensen will replace Mike Penders as Strasbourg’s new first-choice goalkeeper this season, after the Belgian shot-stopper returned to Chelsea following a hugely successful loan spell last campaign.
Romelu Lukaku windfall
Napoli striker Romelu Lukaku has reached an agreement in principle to complete a move to Fenerbahce and Chelsea stand to earn a small fortune from the transfer, as per Gazzetta dello Sport, with a two-year contract offer set to be signed by the striker.
When Chelsea sold Lukaku to Napoli for €30.7m in 2024, they included a 40% sell-on clause in the deal and they are therefore set to earn at least €5m when he joins Fenerbahce, according to Gazzetta.
It’s understood that Napoli and Fenerbahce are now discussing the final details of the transfer, with the deal set to be agreed shortly as Massimiliano Allegri’s side look to shift Lukaku off their wage bill.
Fabian Ruiz interest
Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso wants the club to attempt an ambitious swoop for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Fabian Ruiz before the end of the summer window.
That is according to Spanish outlet El Nacional, who claim that an offer in excess of €60m could be submitted by the Blues as Alonso looks to bolster his midfield ranks.
However, Ruiz signed a new three-year contract at PSG in July, valid until 2029, and he is therefore highly unlikely to leave the club this summer.
Ishe Samuels-Smith to join Notts County?
Chelsea defender Ishe Samuels-Smith is in talks to join League One side Notts County on a season-long loan deal, as per Football Insider.
The 20-year-old spent last year on loan at Swansea, after returning to Chelsea following a one-month spell at Strasbourg, but he only made eight appearances for the club during the entire 2025-26 season.
Chelsea are keen for the left-back to play regular first-team football this season and a temporary move to Notts County is now in the works.
