Chelsea’s proposed move for AS Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara has collapsed due to intermediaries creating “massive disorder.”

On Sunday night, it was claimed that an agreement had been struck for the Senegal international to move to Stamford Bridge before the end of the summer window, with the Blues eager to sign him as a replacement for Manchester City target Enzo Fernandez.

Camara has been on Chelsea’s radar for several months and it was understood that talks over a possible late transfer were likely to lead to a blockbuster move to Xabi Alonso’s side.

However, the deal has now collapsed, as per transfer reporter Sacha Tavolieri, who posted on X: “Lamine Camara's deal abruptly stalled due to agents!

“Intermediaries have inserted themselves on both sides, at Chelsea and at Monaco, which is creating massive disorder.

“Despite the in-principle agreement reached between the clubs, even though there were still some discussions to fine-tune on payment schedules and bonuses as explained last night, certain agents want to increase the transfer fee value to cover a larger amount of commissions.”

As a result, Chelsea have moved away from a possible move for Camara and a deal will now only be finalised if they make a late u-turn before the end of Deadline Day on Tuesday.

Chelsea to sign Manu Kone?

With Camara unlikely to join the club, Chelsea have pivoted their attention to AS Roma star Manu Kone, who is now regarded as their primary midfield target ahead of Deadline Day.

The France international, who shone at the World Cup, has been linked with a Premier League transfer throughout the entire summer window and a move to Stamford Bridge could now be on the cards, with the Blues in contact with his representatives.

It’s understood that talks over a late summer deal are expected to ramp up over the coming hours, with Chelsea only willing to sell Fernandez to Man City if a suitable replacement is lined up.

The west London giants are also in negotiations to send Dario Essugo on loan to Hull City in order to ensure he receives significant game time during the 2026-27 season.

Chelsea have already strengthened their midfield roster with the signings of Valentin Barco and Jordan Henderson so far this summer, but Andrey Santos has departed for Manchester United and Moises Caicedo went down injured during their 4-3 win over Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday afternoon.
