Arsenal Transfer News Today: Positive Alvarez talks held with deal 'expected' to progress rapidly
FootballTransfers runs through the latest Arsenal transfer news, rumours and gossip, including updates on Julian Alvarez, Illan Meslier and Fabio Vieira.
Meslier wanted in quick exit
Illan Meslier joined Arsenal on a free transfer in July after leaving Leeds, with the 26-year-old set to provide competition to David Raya and Kepa Arrizabalaga in goal.
According to Footmercato, Marseille have identified Meslier as one of their top targets, having seen last season’s first choice goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli leave for Manchester City this summer.
Rulli’s departure has left Marseille with just one goalkeeper on their books and the Ligue 1 giants are said to be ‘very impressed’ by Meslier’s profile, although they may need to trim their squad and lower their wage bill before making a concrete offer to Arsenal.
Arsenal given Alvarez chance
Alvarez has been pushing to leave Los Colchoneros all summer and has seen bids from Barcelona and Real Madrid rejected, with the forward now refusing to turn up to training with Atletico.
The pressure he is exerting on his club means that they are ready to sell for €130m – but they are not going to allow the player to make his dream move to Camp Nou, according to Argentine source BolaVIP.
Atletico, however, are open to selling Alvarez to Arsenal and have held positive talks with the Gunners over a deal, with a deal expected to progress rapidly if the player gives the green light to joining the Premier League champions, according to the BBC.
Nelson leaves Arsenal
Arsenal have confirmed that Reiss Nelson has left the club by mutual consent after struggling to break into Mikel Arteta’s first team.
Nelson was in the final year of his contract and has been attracting interest from clubs in England and overseas and the 26-year-old now is planning to assess his options.
The winger has only played once for Arsenal since 2024 and made 10 appearances on loan at Brentford last season.
Having come through the club’s academy, Arsenal have acknowledged that Nelson needs to be playing first team football and, as such, have agreed to release him.
HSV hold Vieira talks
Hamburg are still in talks to sign Fabio Vieira on a permanent basis before the transfer window closes on Tuesday.
Vieira spent last season on loan with the Bundesliga side and all parties are hoping to make the deal permanent but a deal has so far been unable to be agreed.
According to Florian Plettenberg, HSV boss Claude Costa flew to London to meet Vieira this week and let him know their intentions, as well as Andrea Berta, although no negotiations were held.
It is believed only a few million euros separate the clubs, although Vieira is also still attracting attention from elsewhere.
