Arsenal receive timely update on dream signing after Morgan Rogers hijack
Bradley Barcola will discuss his future with Paris Saint-Germain officials this week amid strong interest from Arsenal, according to reports in France.
BBC Sport reported in June that Arsenal are firm admirers of Barcola, and have received encouragement that he could be available this summer.
And now according to French newspaper L’Equipe, Barcola is set to hold talks with the PSG hierarchy following the conclusion of the World Cup.
The same outlet claims Barcola, who scored three goals for World Cup semi-finalists France, is valued at €150million (£127m) by Luis Enrique’s PSG.
L’Equipe claims Barcola, 23, and PSG had been in talks over a new contract, but discussions were put on hold until after the World Cup.
Barcola, who is regarded as one of Europe’s most exciting wingers, has just two years left on his existing terms with the Ligue 1 giants.
Arsenal turn to Barcola after missing out on Rogers
The news comes after Arsenal missed out on signing Morgan Rogers to Chelsea, who agreed a €137m (£117m) fee with Aston Villa on Saturday.
Rogers was a top target for Arsenal this summer, according to The Athletic, but the England international preferred a move to Chelsea.
The same publication understands Rogers’ valuation exceeded Arsenal’s expectations, however, paving the way for Chelsea to hijack the transfer.
Rogers will undergo a medical with Chelsea on Monday ahead of signing a six-year contract with Xabi Alonso’s side, according to The Athletic.
Like Barcola, Rogers also participated at this summer’s World Cup, helping England achieve their best finish since 1966 by winning Saturday's bronze final.
The two players came up against each other as England edged a 10-goal thriller to beat France 6-4 in the third-place playoff in Miami.
Both players tasted European success last season as Barcola won the Champions League with PSG, while Rogers lifted the Europa League with Villa.
