Arsenal Transfer News Today: Reason for Rogers snub revealed, New Barcola update lands
FootballTransfers runs through the latest Arsenal transfer news on Sunday 19 July, including fresh updates on Morgan Rogers, Bradley Barcola, Yan Diomande and Ezri Konsa.
Revealed: Why Rogers had reservations over Arsenal move
Concerns over Arsenal’s style of play contributed to Morgan Rogers preferring a move to Chelsea, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Rogers was a top target for the Gunners, according to The Athletic, before Chelsea agreed a €137million (£117m) fee with Aston Villa on Saturday.
And now Romano claims Arsenal’s brand of football - built on defensive solidity and set-piece prowess - played a role in Rogers’ decision.
In a video on his YouTube channel, Romano said: “Morgan Rogers was open to the move [to Arsenal]. There were some tactical doubts from the player's side, but never any financial concerns. The contract was always ready and was almost fully agreed.”
He added: “Chelsea were extremely aggressive. They were ready to pay £117 million, a huge fee for Morgan Rogers, and they also offered the player a six-year contract with an option for a further season. The financial package was higher than what Arsenal intended to offer.”
Barcola set for PSG talks amid strong Gunners interest
Bradley Barcola will discuss his future with Paris Saint-Germain officials this week amid strong interest from Arsenal, according to reports in France.
BBC Sport reported in June that Arsenal are firm admirers of Barcola, and have received encouragement that he could be available this summer.
And now according to French newspaper L’Equipe, Barcola is set to hold talks with the PSG hierarchy following the conclusion of the World Cup.
The same outlet claims Barcola, who scored three goals for World Cup semi-finalists France, is valued at €150m (£127m) by Luis Enrique’s PSG.
Arteta’s men also keen on RB Leipzig star Diomande
Arsenal have made contact with the representatives of Yan Diomande as their search for a new forward continues, according to Romano.
Diomande has developed a reputation as one of the best young players in the world following a brilliant 2025-26 season with Bundesliga side Leipzig.
And now Romano understands Arsenal are running the rule over the 19-year-old after missing out on Rogers, saying on his YouTube channel: “When we talk about the wingers' market, we also have to see how Arsenal react, both in terms of wingers and strikers, because everything will depend on the opportunities that become available.
“For example, over the last few days Arsenal made some checks with the agents of Yan Diomande, currently at RB Leipzig, to understand whether there was still a chance to enter the race for the player.”
Bid in the offing for Konsa - despite gap in valuation
Arsenal are mulling over a bid to sign Ezri Konsa, according to the Daily Mail, though they remain some way off matching Villa’s valuation.
The Telegraph reported in July that Arsenal have developed tentative interest in signing England international Konsa.
However, the same publication claimed Villa value the 28-year-old at €70.5m (£60m) - a figure which remains prohibitive to Arsenal.
And now the Mail understands that price tag continues to remain a problem for Arsenal, even though an opening offer remains “on the cards”.
