Bruno agreement coming

Arsenal are reportedly close to finalising an agreement to sign Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes for a fee that will exceed €81.6 million (£70m).

The Brazil international has emerged as a priority target for Mikel Arteta’s side ahead of the 2026-27 campaign and the 28-year-old is eager to complete a move to the reigning Premier League champions before the end of the summer window.

That is according to Jack Rosser of The Sun, who posted on X: “Arsenal are close to agreeing a deal with Newcastle for Bruno Guimaraes, fee just north of £70million.”

Guimaraes is likely to be deployed alongside Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard in Arteta’s preferred midfield three next season, with the likes of Myles Lewis-Skelly, Martin Zubimendi, Mikel Merino and Eberechi Eze providing crucial depth for the Gunners.

Vini Jr alternatives

Arsenal are reportedly looking at both Nico Williams of Athletic Bilbao and Antonio Nusa of RB Leipzig as alternatives to Vinicius Junior.

Blockbuster reports emerged last week that the Gunners were considering an ambitious move for the Brazilian superstar in this transfer window, but it soon became clear that Los Blancos are keen for their player to stay.

EL Nacional has confirmed that Williams is a target and actually might be a preferred one to Vini Junior, as the Spain international possesses more positional discipline than the Madrid winger.

As a third choice, Nusa may be targeted.

Arteta promises activity

Though Arteta didn't name names, he promised a lot of transfer activity from the club soon.

"A lot is happening. We all know about the context of this transfer window," he told reporters.

"From ownership to the board, the sporting director and myself, we know that we want to take this club to a different level. That is going to require a better squad, better individuals.

"We have identified where we have opportunities to grow and to improve and to evolve our game and what is going to be needed to achieve that. Hopefully, very soon we can start to put things in a very concrete way."

This summer, Arsenal have signed Piero Hincapie on a permanent deal from Leverkusen, winger Christos Izolis from Club Brugge and goalkeeper Illan Meslier on a free transfer from Leeds.

Martinelli wanted

Roma have emerged as one of the clubs monitoring Gabriel Martinelli.

Nicolo Schira reports the Giallorossi have added the Brazilian to their shortlist after exploring other wide attacking options this summer.

Roma's interest also comes amid uncertainty over Martinelli's role at Arsenal. The club have already signed Tzolis to play down the left-hand side, while other players for that position are being targeted.

Interestingly, the Italian side are another club who have expressed an interest in Nusa.

Martinelli wanted

Ethan Nwaneri is attracting interest from Borussia Dortmund.

The youngster faces an uncertain future at Arsenal after spending the second half of last season on loan at Marseille, but did sign a new deal until the summer of 2030.

With so many midfielders in the squad, and with Bruno Guimaraes set to come too, his playing time will be minimal in the first team this season so another loan deal may be an option, reports the Sun.
