Guimaraes talks opened

Arsenal have opened formal talks with Newcastle over a deal for Bruno Guimaraes, according to The Times.

The Gunners made a verbal bid via intermediaries at the end of June and refrained from opening direct talks with Newcastle, who insist that their captain is not for sale this summer.

However, Guimaraes is understood to be desperate to join Arsenal. It seems this stance has now emboldened the Premier League champions to finally discuss a potential transfer with the Magpies. Ben Jacobs reports that a second bid worth more than €80 million is being prepared.

Chelsea enter Stones race

Chelsea have joined Arsenal in the race to sign former Man City defender John Stones, The Athletic understands.

On Monday, it was claimed that the Gunners had begun exploring a move for the England defender in their search for a short-term replacement for the injured William Saliba. However, Chelsea are now also interested.

New Blues manager Xabi Alonso is determined to add experience to his young team, with the centre-back position set to receive particular attention from the Spaniard. Two players could be signed for that department this summer.

Nduka deal agreed

Arsenal youth prospect Mishel Nduka has agreed terms with Man City, The Athletic writes.

The 16-year-old has turned down a "highly competitive long-term contract" in North London and will complete a move to Man City imminently. He will initially join on scholarship terms, but a professional contract awaits him once he becomes eligible for one after turning 17.

Nduka only joined Arsenal from Charlton Athletic last year. He featured for the Gunners' U18s and U21s, while also suiting up for England's U16s as recently as April.

Kroupi boost?

Barcelona will not be drawn into a bidding war for Bournemouth forward Eli Kroupi this summer, as per AS.

The 20-year-old is believed to be a target for the Catalans, but Barcelona insist that they have no interest in breaking the bank for him. They could instead target Real Sociedad captain Mikel Oyarzabal after his World Cup exploits.

Arsenal, Man Utd and PSG have also been linked with Kroupi, but Bournemouth do not want to lose the Frenchman after just one season and have slapped a prohibitive price tag on his head.
