Man Utd Transfer News Today: Dream signing 'almost done' amid triple midfielder blow
FootballTransfers runs through the latest Manchester United transfer news on Sunday 21 June, including fresh updates on Alex Scott, Joao Gomes, Ederson and Hayden Hackney.
Man Utd facing competition from Arsenal for Scott’s services
Man Utd have learned that Arsenal “certainly have interest” in signing Bournemouth star Alex Scott this summer, according to BBC Sport’s Sami Mokbel.
Scott has developed a reputation as one of the Premier League’s most promising young midfielders after helping the Cherries qualify for next season’s Europa League by finishing sixth in 2025-26.
Such has been the 22-year-old’s impressive form in the middle of the park that United have made an enquiry into the cost of a potential deal, according to The Athletic.
However, United are facing competition from Arsenal for Scott's signature, according to BBC Sport reporter Mokbel, who told Latte Firm’s YouTube channel: “There is certainly interest in Alex Scott from Arsenal.
“But there are other clubs as well who I understand are making moves towards trying to see if it’s possible to extract him out of Bournemouth this summer, which I understand is going to be a difficult task.
“I think it’s going to take quite a lot of money, upwards of 70million (€80m), I think that would be the minimum perhaps that Bournemouth would consider.”
Red Devils target Joao Gomes agrees terms with Atletico
United-linked Joao Gomes has reportedly agreed terms with Atletico Madrid over a possible summer move from Wolverhampton Wanderers, according to Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo.
Gomes is widely expected to leave the Old Gold following the club’s relegation from the Premier League last season, with the Red Devils loosely linked with his signature.
However, according to Mundo Deportivo, La Liga giants Atletico are leading the race for the 25-year-old after reaching an agreement with his representatives over personal terms.
Ederson confirms move to Old Trafford is almost done
Atalanta midfielder Ederson has confirmed that his proposed transfer to United is “almost done” after a €40.5million (£35m) fee was agreed between the two clubs.
United are channeling all of their energy into strengthening their midfield this summer, with the 26-year-old set to become the first of two planned additions in that area of the pitch.
There had been fears the completion of the transfer would be delayed after Ederson received a late call-up to Brazil’s World Cup squad after full-back Wesley sustained an injury on the eve of the tournament.
However, after coming off the bench in Brazil’s 3-0 win over Haiti on Saturday, Ederson told Sky Italia: “Certainly, everything is almost done [with United], but now I have to enjoy this moment [with Brazil]. This is a wonderful experience and you have to enjoy the most.”
Middlesbrough ace Hackney handed United transfer advice
Middlesbrough star Hayden Hackney has been warned that a move to a “big club” could stall his career, amid tentative speculation linking the midfielder with United.
The Northern Echo reported earlier in June that United boss Michael Carrick was keen on a reunion with Hackney, whom he worked with at Championship side Boro between 2022 and 2025.
However, former England international Brian Deane has urged Hackney - who has also been linked with Everton, Brighton and Hove Albion and Crystal Palace - that he should prioritise playing time over money when picking his next club.
In an interview with Ticombo, via GOAL, Deane said: “It's a difficult one because he's (Hackney) still a young man. I feel that for his trajectory, perhaps being tested at the next level would be good for him personally, but he has to be careful which club he goes to for his development.
“If he goes to the wrong club, then he might not get the game time that he needs to make that next step. So wherever he goes, if he does go, then it's got to be a thought-out decision.”
