€120m World Cup star says yes to Man Utd transfer
Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha has given the all-clear to a potential transfer to Manchester United.
The 25-year-old has been starring for Germany at the World Cup so far, though he hasn't been infallible. A massive debate currently rages in his home country as to whether his impressive attacking drive actually prevents Julian Nagelsmann's team from exerting control during games.
Whatever the case, Nmecha has firmly put his name on the map. Coming off a good season at Dortmund, the midfielder - who previously made negative headlines for his alleged homophobic views - has carried his form over into the biggest tournament in football.
There is a widespread belief that Nmecha is ready to take the next step in his career, but it's quite complicated. There is no shortage of interest in the former Man City prospect, but he only recently committed his long-term future to Dortmund.
By all accounts, this wouldn't stop him from pursuing a move back to England, with Nmecha previously admitting that playing in the Premier League is a dream. However, the new contract does make negotiating with Dortmund difficult. His €70 million release clause only takes effect next year.
Nmecha keen on Man Utd move
It was previously reported that Dortmund would only consider a sale this summer if an extraordinary offer were to arrive, with some outlets touting a price tag as high as €120 million.
Despite his contract extension, Man Utd and Man City have been in constant contact with the entourage of Nmecha for months. Both are showing a strong interest despite closing in on the signings of Ederson and Elliot Anderson, respectively.
Newcastle were also recently linked with a move for the 25-year-old, but BILD reports that the Magpies simply don't have the pull of the Manchester clubs. If faced with a choice, Nmecha would favour Man Utd and Man City.
That may be a moot point anyway, with reports over the weekend suggesting that Newcastle have already ended their pursuit of the Germany international due to his price tag.
Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are also said to be monitoring Nmecha, but Dortmund are relaxed. Due to their hefty valuation of the player, they fully believe that he will stay beyond the summer.
Despite their long-standing admiration of Nmecha and his willingness to join, it is doubtful that Man Utd are prepared to shell out north of €120m on him because they are trying to be financially disciplined this summer. He is also simply not worth that much.
