Man Utd to engage with Liverpool in summer 'battle' for 'serious' long-term transfer target
Manchester United could go back in for a long-term transfer target this summer although they are set to face competition from Liverpool among other Premier League rivals.
The Red Devils are already making plans for a busy summer, with hopes that their spending can be amplified by qualifying for next season’s Champions League, with Michael Carrick’s side sitting third in the table.
Although two midfielders and left winger are likely to be the club’s top priorities, wholesale changes are expected across the squad if the club return to European football.
Among those will be in defence and SportsBoom report that Antonee Robinson has emerged as a ‘serious target’ for United who the club are tracking in the hopes of adding quality at left-back.
Robinson has long-been linked with a move to Old Trafford after impressing during his time at Fulham, although the 28-year-old is believed to prefer a move to Liverpool, while Aston Villa are also said to be interested.
With two years remaining on his contract, Robinson could be available for £25 million (€28.9m) and the American is thought to be desperate to take the opportunity to play Champions League football before it is too late.
United and Liverpool look to strengthen left-back options
Robinson has been a standout performer for Fulham since joining the club from Wigan in 2020 and his consistent displays have often seen him earmarked for a big move to one of the Premier League’s elite sides.
Fulham are keen to tie Robinson down to a new contract but the defender is thought to favour a move to Liverpool, who could also join the race for his signature if Andrew Robertson leaves Anfield this summer when his contract expires.
However, United are hoping to bring in an option to compete with Luke Shaw, with fellow left-back Patrick Dorgu potentially seeing his future in a more advanced winger role.
United believe that Robinson’s pace and Premier League experience make him a ‘standout candidate’ and they could lead the race for his signature, particularly with Liverpool splashing out on Milos Kerkez last summer.
