Manchester United are interested in Newcastle left-back Lewis Hall and Bayern Munich superstar Alphonso Davies.

The Red Devils are in the market for a new left-back this summer. While it is not a pressing priority, it is an area of the pitch that needs to be reinforced. Luke Shaw is not getting any younger, and his injury struggles have taken a physical toll on him.

Patrick Dorgu, prior to his injury, was primarily used as a winger. This leaves Shaw, young Diego Leon and the out-of-favour Tyrell Malacia as the only natural left-backs in the Man Utd squad.

Even doomed former head coach Ruben Amorim recognised the need for a more impactful player on that side of the pitch. Speaking late last year, he called for Man Utd to sign a left-sided game-changer similar to Amad Diallo, who was playing as a right wing-back at the time.

Last week, it was claimed that Man Utd are still interested in Bayern star Davies, whom they already chased prior to his contract extension and torn ACL last season. The Bundesliga giants could reportedly be tempted to sell if a suitable offer arrives.

Hall has best-in-the-world potential

Another left-back now being linked with the Red Devils is Newcastle starlet Hall. The 21-year-old has had his own injury battles at times, but he has been fully fit for a few months now and has put in some brilliant performances recently.

His exploits have not gone unnoticed, with TEAMtalk asserting that Arsenal, Liverpool and Man Utd are among the clubs interested in the Chelsea academy graduate. Newcastle, though, are firm in their stance that Hall is not for sale.

Be that as it may, Hall would be a really good acquisition for Man Utd should an opportunity for a deal arise at some point. Indeed, data from analytics firm SciSports shows that Hall has the potential to become a top-two player in his position.

Among the left-backs aged 21 or younger in world football, Hall's potential is only bettered by Chelsea youngster Jorrel Hato, according to SciSports. The Newcastle star is some way clear of Man City's Nico O'Reilly and Arsenal's Myles Lewis-Skelly.

Hall's sky-high potential also means that he could go on to become a better player than Davies. While the Canadian superstar is a more refined player currently, his English counterpart's ceiling is believed to be significantly higher.

Davies has been there and done it and would offer Man Utd immediate impact (when fit), while Hall would be an excellent bet for the future, with the potential to outshine a player many considered the best in his position prior to his ACL injury.
