Sesko agent unhappy with 'super sub' label for Man Utd star under Michael Carrick
The agent of Benjamin Sesko has admitted he ‘doesn’t like’ the notion that the Slovenian is a ‘super sub’ and insists the Manchester United star deserves better treatment after his recent performances.
Sesko has found impressive form under Michael Carrick in recent months, with the 22-year-old netting eight times in his last 11 appearances, although only four of those have been starts.
In particular, four of Sesko’s last five goals have come from a total of 84 minutes of action after being brought off the bench, leading to the striker being labelled a ‘super sub – something his agent Elvis Basanovic objects to.
“If you ask me about this name, I don't like it. I like ‘super striker’ much more,” Basanovic told Arena Sport.
“I think Benjamin is a super striker. He has started 13 games this year, coming off the bench in 13 games. He scored half of his goals when he started the game and half when he came off the bench.
“We can see that he is a complete striker and Benjamin is someone who deserves the name ‘super striker.’”
Sesko unbothered by substitute role after Man Utd revival under Carrick
Sesko had only scored twice in his first 17 appearances after his €76.5 million transfer from RB Leipzig in the summer, leading to question marks over the signing.
However, Sesko’s fortunes improved after the turn of the year and following the arrival of Carrick, who replaced Ruben Amorim as manager in January.
Sesko’s turnaround emulated that of United’s, who themselves have won seven of their ten matches under Carrick, largely in part due to the goals of their young forward.
“I'm getting settled in the league from game to game,' Sesko said in February. “Again, I'm not even thinking about ‘I have to start, I have to start.’ For me it's just whenever coach decides to put me there one time or not I'm just going to be there.
“If I get the next minutes, five minutes, I'm going to use them and for me it's just about trying to enjoy and delivering for the team.”
