Arsenal to benefit from falling-out: Talks with €80m star have already started
AC Milan will listen to offers for Rafael Leao this summer after his falling-out with manager Max Allegri, and Arsenal are ready to pounce.
The Portugal international has not been a talismanic figure for the Rossoneri for some time now. Previously the first name on the teamsheet, Leao is no longer performing at his previous level.
The first cracks already appeared last season. The 26-year-old was benched by doomed head coach Paulo Fonseca during his compatriot's brief tenure at the San Siro, and he hasn't been the same since.
While a return of nine goals in 22 Serie A games this term is solid, Leao no longer appears to be the game-breaker and game-changer he was a few years ago. This is despite the fact that new boss Max Allegri has done his best to shield him from criticism.
At the weekend, things came to a head. Leao went ballistic when he was substituted by Allegri, and the veteran manager now appears to have given up on the attacker.
Leao could be sold this summer
According to Tuttomercatoweb, the relationship between the two has broken down, and Leao is no longer considered untouchable. While Milan are not actively pushing him out, they will listen to offers this summer.
The problems with the Portuguese are believed to run deeper than just his recent tantrum. Leao has shown "certain attitudes" that suggest he is no longer fully committed to the Rossoneri.
It seems that both parties previously missed the opportunity for a mutually beneficial parting of ways when Leao was being courted by many of Europe's top clubs. He has now overstayed his welcome.
Unless he gets his head straight again in the final weeks of the season, Milan will likely offload him this summer, which is good news for Arsenal. Last month, FootballTransfers exclusively revealed that the Gunners had begun exploring a potential move.
Initial talks over a summer transfer have already been held with his representatives. It is understood that Milan would ideally like to receive a fee in the region of €80m, though his falling-out with Allegri could potentially push his price down.
