Man Utd Transfer News Today: Sandro Tonali wanted as contact confirmed
FootballTransfers runs through all the latest Manchester United transfer news, including updates on Sandro Tonali and Leon Goretzka.
Sandro Tonali wanted
Manchester United have reportedly identified Newcastle United star Sandro Tonali as a key transfer target amid their pursuit of a new central midfielder this summer.
Arsenal were linked with a surprise move for the 25-year-old on Transfer Deadline Day and FootballTransfers understands that Tonali himself asked his agent to explore a potential move to the Emirates Stadium.
We have also been told that Arsenal will rekindle their pursuit of Tonali this summer, with Mikel Arteta eager to land the Italy star as he looks to further bolster the options at his disposal.
However, Man Utd have now joined the race for his signature, as per The Telegraph.
It’s reported that Man Utd officials have earmarked Tonali as a top candidate to replace Casemiro, who will depart the club when his contract expires in July. The Red Devils are also tracking the progress of Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton and Carlos Baleba, but Tonali has now been added to their transfer wishlist amid growing rumours that he could leave Newcastle in 2026.
Leon Goretzka contact
Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham and Newcastle United have all been contacted by Leon Goretzka’s camp, with the former understood to be leading the race for his signature, as per TEAMtalk.
AC Milan, Atletico Madrid and Olympique Marseille are also reportedly keeping close tabs on Goretzka’s situation, while two unnamed clubs in the Saudi Pro League have also registered their interest in the Bayern star.
The 31-year-old will become a free agent when his current contract at the Allianz Arena expires in July and Vincent Kompany’s side have already confirmed that he will not be signing fresh terms with the club.
Cole Palmer decision
Cole Palmer continues to be linked with a move to Manchester United and rumours of a blockbuster transfer have been fuelled further by Red Devils captain Bruno Fernandes.
Following Palmer’s hat-trick versus Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, the England superstar posted a photo dump on Instagram and Fernandes surprisingly responded by commenting: “What a player.”
This has contributed to renewed speculation over a possible Man Utd switch, however Football.London have confirmed that Chelsea regard Palmer as “virtually untouchable” and a departure is therefore unlikely to take place this summer.
Eder Militao identified as new target
Man Utd have reportedly made a ‘formal offer’ for Real Madrid defender Eder Militao.
United could find themselves playing Champions League football next season after four successive wins under Michael Carrick which has seen the club elevate into the top five of the Premier League.
With United seemingly thriving in a back four after the sacking of Ruben Amorim, the club are already looking at ways to improve the team in the summer and Fichajes report that Militao is being eyed as an option.
United could be on the lookout for a centre-back this summer to replace Harry Maguire if the 32-year-old leaves at the end of his contract and Militao is allegedly seen as ‘fitting perfectly’ with the club’s plans due to his age, experience and calibre.
Anthony Gordon latest
Manchester United could take advantage of Newcastle’s poor form by making a summer move for Anthony Gordon.
With the future of Tonali already uncertain, the Magpies could face a further exodus of star players including Gordon after transfer reporter Ben Jacobs revealed that United ‘really like’ the England international.
"Manchester United really like Antony Gordon as well as a potential option, especially knowing that the player actually relishes the chance to have more game time through the centre as a number 9,” Jacobs told The United Stand.
Man Utd eye Liam Delap
Manchester United are set to shop at Chelsea this summer as Liam Delap is now also being linked with a move to Old Trafford in addition to the aforementioned Palmer.
All told, Delap has only scored three goals for Chelsea since joining from relegated Ipswich Town ahead of the Club World Cup last summer. Just one of those goals has come in 15 Premier League outings.
However, Delap could also become a target again for the Red Devils, according to TEAMtalk. Man Utd, of course, were among the clubs vying for his signature last summer.
It is claimed that the Old Trafford club are still keeping tabs on Delap. Given that he only cost just over €35 million, Chelsea would have no issue cashing in on him at the right price, especially in light of his disappointing start to life in West London.
With Emmanuel Emegha and possibly another striker joining the club in the summer, Delap's chances of regular minutes will be limited next term, making him a potential market opportunity in the summer.
